Karen & Lucy

Inspired by the resilience of women affected, Karen & Lucy created an annual event where everyone can come together to make a difference.

Lucy and Karen team up every year to host an exciting and heartwarming ‘Girls Night In’, in support of Cherish Women’s Cancer Foundation! Their mission? To help raise funds for life-saving clinical research that leads to better treatments and brighter futures for women facing gynecological cancers.

Cherish is a Brisbane-based charity with a big heart, dedicated to improving the lives of women through innovative research. For Lucy and Karen, supporting this local cause is personal—cancer has deeply impacted their lives, as well as the lives of close friends and family members.

For them, it’s not just about fundraising, but also about creating a fun, uplifting event where everyone can come together to make a real difference. They are inspired by the resilience of the women affected and are passionate about helping Cherish continue its important work.

Lucy’s Story

In November 2020, my beautiful Mum was diagnosed with Stage 4 uterine cancer. She had no symptoms until just a few weeks earlier, and by the time we knew, the cancer had already spread to her bowel and stomach. She bravely began chemotherapy right away, but after her third dose in January 2021, complications arose, and she passed away just three days later. She was only 77.

Through my Mum’s oncologist, Dr. Grimes, we discovered Cherish Women’s Cancer Foundation. It was important to me and my family to support research in this field, knowing firsthand how devastating and swift these cancers can be. My Mum’s illness was silent, but we want to make sure the next generation has more time and more options. By supporting Cherish, we can help change the future for women like my Mum.

Karen’s Story

I’m Karen, a proud breast cancer survivor and mum to two teenage boys. In September 2016, my world turned upside down when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a tough road—multiple surgeries, rounds of chemo, and radiation—but today, I’m incredibly grateful to say I’m cancer-free. Every day in Queensland, 12 women hear the words “You have cancer.” While survival rates are improving, we still have a long way to go.

As a cancer patient, hope is everything. That hope comes from research—research that fuels medical breakthroughs, giving patients a fighting chance for longer, healthier lives. It’s because of ongoing research that treatments have come so far, and that’s why I’m passionate about supporting Cherish Women’s Cancer Foundation. Together, we can offer more women hope for a brighter future.
