Lili

In her late thirties, Lili Gibson-Tesese was having difficulty falling pregnant. She consulted a fertility specialist and was shocked to learn she had endometrial cancer, also known as uterine cancer. Lili’s first thoughts were about whether she would ever become a mother. The standard treatment was a radical hysterectomy, which would rule out having children. Thankfully, Lili had early stage and non-aggressive endometrial cancer and she was able to join the feMMe trial run by the Queensland Centre for Gynaecological Cancer Research and partly funded by Cherish. This clinical trial tested using an Mirena IUD combined with an anti-diabetic drug, Metformin, to treat the cancer from inside the uterus.

Lili is grateful for the opportunity to participate in the feMMe trial and now takes her health a lot more seriously. Although Lili didn’t end up falling pregnant, she will be forever thankful for the time to continue to be with loved ones and chase her dreams.
