What is Cherish battling against?

Cherish Women’s Cancer Foundation encourages participants to battle against gynaecological cancers such as ovarian, cervical, uterine, endometrial, vulval and vaginal cancers by raising funds for clinical research into effective but kinder, less invasive treatments for women diagnosed with these cancers, through registering and playing at The Battle.

What is gynaecological cancer?

Gynaecological cancer affects the tissue and organs of the female reproductive system. These include the cervix, uterus, vagina, vulva or other areas of the pelvis. Approximately 5000 women are diagnosed with gynaecological cancer each year in Australia, and a third of these will not survive this disease.

Gynaecological cancers have not been researched as well as other cancers, such as breast cancer. Little is known about the support that women need during and after treatment. More research is needed to establish what the best treatments are, how we can prevent this deadly disease and ultimately, to find a cure. Click here for more information about this disease.

Where does the money raised go?

Cherish Women’s Cancer Foundation’s primary goal is to raise funds towards clinical trials that result in better treatments for women diagnosed with gynaecological cancer. Cherish chooses trials that can be developed and implemented quickly, giving women real and tangible improvements that positively impact on their quality of life. The Battle 2018’s research partner and beneficiary is the Queensland Centre for Gynaecological Cancer Research. More information about the clinical trials funded by Cherish can be viewed here.

How do I register for The Battle?

Registration is due to open soon.  Registration is easy through our website, which utilises Everyday Hero as the platform for taking registration and payment details. This portal will ask you to set up an account with Everyday Hero (if you haven’t set one up already for a different event) and will help you through the process. Teams are asked to raise $750 per team by the event date. A team leader should be nominated who will be a main point of contact for Cherish. Should you have any questions or issues with registering, please contact Cherish Women’s Cancer Foundation

How can I sponsor The Battle?

Sponsorships for The Battle 2018 are open. If you would like to sponsor The Battle 2018, or create a broader partnership with Cherish for other activities, campaigns or events, please contact Cherish Women’s Cancer Foundation on 0413 590 501 or

What do I need to bring to The Battle event?

Your sense of fun!  Cherish has thought of everything. We have food and beverages for purchase, so no need to bring your esky! Please note that Sandstorm is a “glass free venue” and is not licenced for BYO.  It’s a night-time event after work on a Friday, so all we ask is that you bring yourselves, your competitive spirit and your game face!

Will I get access to photos after The Battle event?

Yes, photos taken by Cherish’s photographer will be available soon after the event.

When will I get a draw so that I know what time my games are?

Because registrations will not close until closer to the event, the draw will not be available until the day.

How long do games go for?

Each game will run for nine minutes and each team will get to play a minimum of four games. Feedback from previous years has been that teams want more game time, so this time we will ensure each team plays a minimum of 4 games.

How many players in a team?

Teams should aim to have around five players (but up to eight players can be registered to allow for subs).  Teams can be mixed – males and females of ANY athletic ability!  A maximum of 5 players can be on the court at any one time.

Are there any ATMs at Sandstorm Beach Club?

Unfortunately there are no cash-out facilities at Sandstorm.

What are the payment options?

Payments can be made via the Everyday Hero registration page, including credit card, direct debit and PayPal.

When will entries close?

Registrations will close Wednesday 14th March 2018 at midnight. This will enable us to finalise the draw for the day.

Will there be first aid available?

Yes – there will be a tent with a first aid officer at the event.

Can I still register on the day?

Unfortunately registration cannot be done on the day. The draw needs to be finalised prior to the day.

Who do I contact if I have not received a registration confirmation?

If you have not received a registration confirmation from Everyday Hero please contact Cherish Women’s Cancer Foundation at

Can I request a refund?

All money raised will be treated as non-refundable donations, so no, unfortunately we cannot offer refunds.

What happens if it’s raining?

If it is light rain, the event will still go ahead. If there is likelihood of a storm, the event will be  postponed due to safety reasons. If in doubt on the day, check out our Facebook page for current information. We will also add notifications to The Battle website homepage.

What happens if the event is cancelled?

The event will be postponed to a date in the near future if there are circumstances beyond the organiser’s control, such as weather conditions that jeopardise public safety. You will be notified of an alternate date within a day of the event being postponed.  Please note registrations are non-refundable.
